Longleat has been at the forefront of British tourism for more than half a
century. It was the first stately home to fully open its doors to the public
back in 1949 and also the location for the original drive-through Safari Park in
1966.
Today visitors can enjoy really close encounters with some of the largest,
fiercest, cutest and strangest animals from around the world in the Safari Park.
Take a ride on the Longleat Railway, let the kids explore the turrets and rope
bridges of the Adventure Castle (including the Blue Peter Maze) or pop along to
meet Postman Pat and his friends in his very own Greendale Village!
A day at Longleat will never be long enough!
Set within 900 acres of 'Capability' Brown landscaped grounds and with its mix
of historic stately home, world famous Safari Park and award-winning family
attractions Longleat is one of the best loved tourist destinations in the UK.
After welcoming a record-breaking 789,000 visitors last year and with recent
confirmation that the hugely popular BBC documentary 'Animal Park', will be back
on location to film series eight, 2007 is set to be another memorable year for
staff, animals and visitors alike at the Wiltshire attraction.
This season will see the unveiling of a major new tiger exhibit in the Safari
Park with the arrival of three young Siberian tigers. Three comical-looking
warthogs have also been introduced into the East African Reserve and will be
enthralling visitors with their antics.
The new, fully accessible Safari Boats; 'The Lady Bath' and 'The Lady Lenka'
will be offering sea lion escorted cruises to thousands of visitors every day on
Half Mile Lake.
The restoration and maintenance project on the Longleat Hedge Maze will be
nearing completion following the construction of a series of wooden bridges
throughout the 2.72km maze. Built using Douglas Fir from the Longleat Estate,
these bridges will join the 25-tonne, 10m high tower which was incorporated into
the maze design in 2005.
Re-roofing of Longleat House will commence with a massive scaffolding project
planned for 2007 and beyond as the lead roof is replaced and exciting and
innovative planting schemes are planned for the formal gardens surrounding the
House.
The summer holidays will see the introduction of a new show and there will be a
full programme of fun filled activities throughout the season to suit children
of all ages.
